The Office Burundais du Droit d’Auteur et des Droits Voisins (OBDA) is Burundi’s copyright office, created by presidential decree 100/237 of 7 September 2011 under the framework of Burundi’s 2005 copyright law. It is based in Bujumbura.
OBDA manages performance, broadcast, reproduction, translation and adaptation rights on behalf of members, in Burundi and abroad through reciprocal arrangements, and issues authorisations for the public use of protected works. In 2023 it began requiring hotels, bars, salons and other venues equipped with television to pay usage fees, with proceeds intended for registered artists. Burundian commentators have questioned how effectively the office serves artists more than a decade after its creation.
OBDA has no confirmed live website; coverage of its activity comes mainly through Burundi’s presidency portal and outlets such as Iwacu and Music In Africa.
