What the registry shows is this: on 17 releases the Apple phonogram line reads "South Africa – Dube Connection, exclusively distributed under Sony Music Entertainment Africa (Pty) Ltd", which claims the sound recording copyright for Dube Connection and names Sony Music Entertainment Africa (Pty) Ltd as exclusive distributor only. Deezer files the same catalogue to the label of record Dube Connection. Separately, six releases name a Sony entity as phonogram OWNER with no Dube Connection credit: Oh! Read this before citing: The phonogram year in a credit line is the year the sound recording was first published, not the date the credit was applied to the digital product. A 2003 recording carrying the Sony exclusive-distribution wording therefore shows that the recording was published in 2003 and that Sony Music Entertainment Africa (Pty) Ltd is named as its exclusive distributor on the delivery currently live, which may have been made at any later date. It is not proof of an unbroken contractual relationship running from 2003. What it does establish is that the Sony exclusive-distribution credit was already attached to 17 releases, including every In His Presence title, before the June 2026 announcement, so that announcement records a continuation or renewal rather than a first-time arrival, and Dube's own description of it as "partnering with Sony again" is consistent with that. The contradiction on the face of the registry is recorded rather than resolved: 15 albums appear on Apple twice with the same release date and two different phonogram lines, one naming Dube Connection alone and one adding the Sony exclusive-distribution wording, and Deezer shows the two variants carry different UPCs. No party has explained the duplication. SME Africa (Pty) Ltd is treated here as the same company as Sony Music Entertainment Africa (Pty) Ltd, which appears in full elsewhere in the same catalogue; no document reviewed states the equivalence in terms. On 12 June 2026 Bishop Benjamin Dube announced a partnership between his own company, Dube Connection, and Sony Music Entertainment Africa (Pty) Ltd, timed to celebrations marking 20 years of his In His Presence music ministry. The announcement states that Dube’s catalogue will be “distributed and managed through Sony Music Entertainment Africa”. No financial terms, no territory and no term length were disclosed by either party.
The registry record shows what that does and does not mean. Sony Music Entertainment Africa is named on Dube’s catalogue as exclusive distributor, not as owner. The phonogram copyright is claimed by Dube Connection.
What the credit line says
An Apple catalogue lookup for Benjamin Dube (Apple artist ID 880222), read across the South African, United States and United Kingdom storefronts on 15 September 2026, returns 55 unique collections. Seventeen of them carry a phonogram line in this exact form:
“℗ [year] South Africa - Dube Connection, exclusively distributed under Sony Music Entertainment Africa (Pty) Ltd”
That is a distribution credit. The party claiming the copyright in the sound recording is Dube Connection. Sony Music Entertainment Africa is named as the exclusive distributor of those recordings, which is a different legal relationship from ownership, from administration and from a licence of the master itself.
The seventeen recordings carrying that line have publication years running from 2003 to 2024: For Every Mountain… Thank You (2003), You Blessed Me Still (2005), Looking Back (2005), Worship In His Presence (2010), In His Presence (2013), Renewal In His Presence (2014), Sanctified in His Presence (2015), Spiritual Celebration Vol. 1 (2017), Victorious In His Presence (2017), Glory in His Presence (2019), Early Years Vol. 1 (2020), Early Years Vol. 2 (2020), Worship In Isolation (2020), Zilungiselen’ (2021), I Need Thee Medley (2023), Legendary In His Presence (2023) and Legendary In His Presence 2 (2024).
Independent confirmation of the owner
Deezer files the same catalogue under the label of record Dube Connection, not under any Sony imprint. Of the 24 Benjamin Dube albums checked through the Deezer album endpoint on 15 September 2026, the In His Presence titles, the Early Years volumes, the Spiritual Celebration volumes and both Legendary In His Presence albums are all filed to Dube Connection.
Part of the catalogue is owned by Sony, not distributed for Dube
Six releases in the same catalogue name a Sony entity as the phonogram owner outright, with no Dube Connection credit at all:

Four of those six are credited to Benjamin Dube & Praise Explosion and are compilations or best-of packages, the category a label ordinarily owns in its own right. The distinction matters: on these recordings a Sony company is the owner, not the distributor.

Two releases name Gallo: Celebration (1994) reads “℗ 1994 The Gallo Record Company Vault” and Love Africa (2007) reads “℗ 2007 Gallo Record Company”. Deezer files Love Africa to the label Gallo Record Company. I Feel Like Going On (1999) reads “℗ 1999 Harmony Records”. Four Spirit of Praise releases featuring Dube (2016 to 2021) are owned by Spirit Music, not by Dube Connection.
The same albums appear twice, with two different credit lines
Fifteen titles appear on Apple twice, with the same release date and two different phonogram lines: one naming Dube Connection alone, one naming Dube Connection with the Sony exclusive-distribution wording. Deezer shows the two variants carry different UPCs. On Legendary In His Presence 2 (10 May 2024) the variant titled “Live at Sun City Superbowl, 2024” carries UPC 196874368923 and the Sony distribution line, while the variant titled “(Live)” carries UPC 198500607451 and the bare Dube Connection line. The same split appears on Glory in His Presence (196874404850 against 198015906865), Sanctified in His Presence (196874372920 against 198003244702), Spiritual Celebration Vol. 1 (196874369302 against 198500870480), Early Years Vol. 1 (196874365717 against 198500870473) and Early Years Vol. 2 (196874365892 against 198500870459).
The 196874 UPC prefix on the Sony-distributed variants is the same prefix carried by other Sony Music Entertainment Africa releases recorded by this desk, including both 2026 MetroBeatz RSA releases (196874657805 and 196874386965). No party has explained why two parallel products of the same album are live at once.
