- Digital distribution representation. Nikita Music, a Brazilian digital distributor, announced it now represents Niger's Kasuwa Distro for distribution, alongside two labels it says it already represented, Angola's Go Edicoes and a label it names only as Roots Records. No source reviewed states that masters, publishing or any equity interest moved to Nikita in either direction; both Nikita's own announcement and the independent trade report describe representation and distribution, not a rights transfer.
- Territory
- Niger, Angola and Mozambique, the three countries Nikita Music names for the labels it represents there; Nikita itself is based in Brazil. Nikita's post also claims almost 500 artists distributed across the African continent through these label relationships.

- Nikita Music's own announcement of the Kasuwa Distro partnership, carrying an on-record quote from executive director Felippe Llerena. The post itself carries no publication date; it is corroborated and dated by an independent Musica e Mercado trade report published 30 May 2024. · Musica e Mercado trade report, dated 30 May 2024, byline Redacao M&M, independently corroborates the Nikita/Kasuwa partnership and supplies the only firm publication date found for this announcement · Adji One Centhiago, 'BOUBA DIALLO CHINE,' from the release 'PERRA BOSS': credited 'Provided to YouTube by Nikita Music,' (P) 2024 Fato djamatigui, released 2024-03-08, checked directly · 'Niger Pays De paix,' credited (P) Kasuwa Distro with no Nikita Music credit, checked directly · Yola Semedo, '25 Anos (Ao Vivo)': (P) 2011 Go Edicoes, checked directly · Kasuwa Distro's own site, returned HTTP 406 to this desk's checks and so is not used as a source, cited here only to record that it was tried
Read this before citing: The partnership announcement itself is confirmed by two independent accounts: Nikita Music's own post and a Musica e Mercado trade report dated 30 May 2024 that corroborates it. Three further things were checked against release metadata rather than taken on the announcement's word. First, the Kasuwa Distro leg is operative: a March 2024 release by Kasuwa-linked artist Adji One Centhiago carries the YouTube credit 'Provided to YouTube by Nikita Music,' confirming the distribution relationship was live within weeks of the partnership becoming public. A separate Kasuwa release on Audiomack carries only a Kasuwa Distro phonogram credit with no Nikita mention, consistent with Nikita distributing some but not necessarily all Kasuwa output. Second, Go Edicoes' side of the relationship could not be confirmed the same way. Checking every traceable release by its best-known artist, Yola Semedo, across 2011 to 2026 found phonogram credits alternating between 'Go Edicoes' or 'Go-Edicoes Angola' and a separate credit, 'Energia Positiva Music,' with a Go-Edicoes credit as recently as September 2023. No release checked, before or after the 2024 Nikita announcement, carries any Nikita Music credit, and no source reviewed states what Energia Positiva's relationship to Go Edicoes is. Nikita's representation claim for Go Edicoes is therefore unconfirmed by the one artist's catalogue this desk could check, not contradicted outright, since representation deals do not always surface in phonogram credits. Third, the label Nikita names as 'Roots Records' could not be identified. No country, registration, website or roster is given, and several unrelated labels share the name, including a London reggae-era imprint and an Italian jazz and house label. This record does not assert which, if any, is the one Nikita means, and treats that partner as unconfirmed. No financial terms, fee structure or exclusivity were disclosed in any source checked for any of the three label relationships.
In 2024, Brazilian digital distributor Nikita Music said it now represents Niger’s Kasuwa Distro for international distribution, one of three African labels it names in the same announcement, alongside Angola’s Go Edições and a label it calls only Roots Records. Nikita’s own post and an independent trade report dated 30 May 2024 confirm the announcement itself. Release metadata checked independently for this record confirms the Kasuwa Distro leg is live. It does not confirm the Go Edições leg, and the third label, Roots Records, could not be identified at all.
What Nikita actually said
Nikita Music describes itself as a Brazilian digital distributor with more than ten years in the market. In a post on its own site, the company said the arrival of Kasuwa Distro “consolidates” its position on the African continent, and that it already represented two other African labels before Kasuwa joined: Go Edições in Angola and a label it names only as Roots Records. Nikita’s founder and executive director, Felippe Llerena, is quoted on the record: “The entry of Kasuwa Distro consolidates our position on the continent. We have other labels as clients and all of them have incredible artists in their portfolio, full of urban and local rhythms.” Nikita’s post puts the combined reach of these label relationships at close to 500 artists distributed across Niger, Angola and Mozambique.
Nikita’s own post carries no publication date. A Música & Mercado trade report, 30 May 2024, independently names the same partnership and supplies the only firm date found anywhere for this announcement. Nothing in either account states a fee, a commission rate, an exclusivity term or a contract length. “Not disclosed” is the accurate answer to every financial question this record could ask.
Kasuwa Distro checks out
Kasuwa Distro is a record label based in Niamey, Niger, led by Abdoul Kader Hassan Hamadou. The label’s own catalogue listing gives a Niger tax identification number and a commercial register number, consistent with a real registered business in Niger, though this desk could not independently verify either number against a public Nigerien registry, since none exists online.
What is independently checkable is whether Nikita actually distributes Kasuwa’s music, and the answer is yes, for at least part of the catalogue. A March 2024 single by the Kasuwa-linked artist Adji One Centhiago, “BOUBA DIALLO CHINE,” carries the YouTube credit “Provided to YouTube by Nikita Music,” with the recording itself phonogram-credited to a separate 2024 copyright holder. That credit places the Nikita-Kasuwa relationship as live within weeks of the partnership becoming public. A second Kasuwa release, “Niger Pays De paix,” found on Audiomack, carries only a Kasuwa Distro phonogram credit with no Nikita Music mention anywhere on the page. Read together, the two credits are consistent with Nikita distributing some, not necessarily all, of Kasuwa’s output, which is exactly what a representation deal rather than an exclusive global distribution deal would look like.
Go Edições is where the claim gets harder to verify
Go Edições e Produções, a label based on Rua de João Seca in Luanda’s Maianga district, is the company Nikita says it already represented before Kasuwa arrived. Its best-known artist is Angolan singer Yola Semedo, whose catalogue is deep enough, and well-documented enough on streaming platforms, to actually test the claim.
It does not hold up cleanly. Yola Semedo’s phonogram credits on her most-streamed releases alternate between two different names across more than a decade, and neither of them is Nikita Music. “25 Anos (Ao Vivo)” carries a 2011 Go Edições credit. “Sem Medo,” from 2018, carries a separate credit, Energia Positiva Music. “Filho Meu,” a 14-track release from September 2023, a full seven months before Nikita’s announcement, carries a Go-Edições Angola credit again. “Quem Dera,” released in November 2025, well after the announcement, carries an Energia Positiva credit. No release checked for this record, in any year, carries a Nikita Music distribution credit.
That is not proof the representation claim is false. Distribution-representation deals do not always surface on a phonogram credit line the way a label signing does, and Nikita may be handling only certain territories, certain releases or certain back-catalogue licensing that would not show up this way. But it means Nikita’s claim to represent Go Edições rests on Nikita’s own word alone. No independent source checked for this record, including the artist’s own most prominent catalogue, corroborates it. What the credits do establish is that Go Edições itself is a real, continuously active label, and that a second label name, Energia Positiva, has handled its lead artist’s most recent releases without any source reviewed explaining what relationship, if any, the two companies have.
The third label Nikita never fully identifies
Nikita’s post names a third represented label only as “Roots Records,” with no country, no registration detail and no artist roster given. That is too little to verify. Several unrelated companies share the name, including a defunct London reggae-era imprint and an Italian jazz and house label, and nothing in Nikita’s announcement or in the trade coverage that followed distinguishes which one, if any, it means. This record does not guess. Roots Records is treated here as an unconfirmed partner, not a false one.
What could not be established
Four things sit outside what the public record supports. First, any financial term of any of the three label relationships: fee, commission, minimum guarantee or exclusivity. Second, whether Nikita’s representation of Go Edições covers the label’s full catalogue, selected releases, or only certain markets, none of which Yola Semedo’s own credits resolve one way or the other. Third, what Energia Positiva Music’s relationship to Go Edições actually is, since the two names alternate across the same artist’s catalogue with no source explaining the switch. Fourth, which company, in which country, Nikita means by “Roots Records.”
What this means for artists
If a distributor tells you it represents a long list of labels across several countries, the announcement itself is marketing copy, not proof. Three checks follow directly from what this record did and did not find.
Check your own release credits, not the distributor’s press release. The clearest evidence this record found for Nikita’s Kasuwa Distro relationship was not Nikita’s announcement, it was a “Provided to YouTube by” line on an actual release. If you are signed to, or distributed through, any of the labels named here, your own phonogram and platform credits are a better source of truth about who is actually moving your music than any company’s own marketing.
Ask what “representation” covers before you assume it covers everything. A distributor naming your label as a client does not tell you whether that covers your whole catalogue, new releases only, or a single territory. Go Edições’ own artist carries two different label credits across the period this partnership supposedly covers, which is exactly the kind of gap that leaves an artist unsure who is actually responsible for getting a release onto a platform, and who collects first when it does.
Get the partner’s identity in writing, especially across language and currency borders. A distribution announcement that names a partner only by a common trade name, with no country or registration attached, as Nikita’s post does with “Roots Records,” is not enough information for an artist on the other end of that chain to confirm who they are actually dealing with. The same caution applies in reverse: if you are a label being told a foreign distributor already represents you, check that the public description of the relationship matches what your own contract says.
Limits of this record. This record is built on Nikita Music’s own announcement of its African label relationships, independently dated and corroborated by a Música & Mercado trade report of 30 May 2024. The Kasuwa Distro leg of the claim is independently confirmed through a “Provided to YouTube by Nikita Music” credit on a March 2024 release and a separate Kasuwa release on Audiomack carrying no Nikita credit. The Go Edições leg could not be independently confirmed: every traceable release by the label’s lead artist, Yola Semedo, from 2011 to 2025, carries either a Go Edições or Go-Edições Angola credit or a separate Energia Positiva Music credit, never a Nikita Music credit. Go Edições’ own website did not resolve from the servers used to check it. Kasuwa Distro’s own website returned an access error to the same checks. The third partner named in Nikita’s announcement, Roots Records, could not be identified in any register, catalogue or database checked for this record and is treated here as unconfirmed. No source reviewed discloses a fee, commission, minimum term or exclusivity clause for any of the three relationships.
