Grammy-nominated American producer David Kershenbaum has sold his producer royalties and related rights across a catalog that includes Tracy Chapman‘s “Fast Car” to HarbourView Equity Partners. The agreement covers master recording rights for several hit songs.
Catalog included in the deal#
The acquired rights span songs such as Joe Jackson’s “Steppin’ Out” and Marc Cohn’s “Walking in Memphis.” The deal also includes:
- Chapman’s “Baby Can I Hold You,” “Talking’ Bout a Revolution,” “She’s Got Her Ticket” and “Crossroads”
- Jackson’s “Is She Really Going Out With Him” and “Breaking Us in Two”
- Gallagher & Lyle’s “I Wanna Stay With You”
Chapman’s “Fast Car” drew renewed attention in 2023 after Luke Combs‘ cover reached No. 2 on the all-genre singles chart in the United States. Chapman and Combs performed the song together at the Grammy Awards the following year.
Career and executive comment#
Kershenbaum’s five-decade career includes work with Bryan Adams, Duran Duran and Elkie Brooks. He has received four Grammy nominations, including one for producer of the year.

Transaction details#
Fox Rothschild, LLP served as legal counsel to HarbourView in the transaction. HarbourView has acquired more than 70 music catalogs and has approximately $3.88 billion in regulatory assets under management.
