This page explains who owns what on Afrobeats Wire, how to quote us, and how to tell us if we have used something of yours that we should not have. We take that seriously and we act on it quickly.

Our own material

Articles, headlines, charts, datasets, directory profiles, the wordmark and the site design are owned by Afrobeats Wire or licensed to it, and are protected by copyright. Copyright in material we quote stays with whoever owns it.

Quoting us

Quote a short extract, name Afrobeats Wire, and link to the page you took it from. No permission needed. If you want to reproduce a whole article, a full chart or a dataset in a commercial product, ask first at copyright@afrobeatswire.com.

Material we did not create

Reporting on the music business means referring to what other outlets, companies and public bodies have published. We quote, we cite and we link. Photographs and artwork are used where we believe we have the right to, whether through a licence, a press or promotional supply, an open licence, or fair dealing for reporting and criticism.

Rights information is often thin or contradictory, and we can get it wrong. If we have, we would rather hear from you than not.

Sending a takedown notice

Email copyright@afrobeatswire.com and include:

• What the work is, and where the original can be seen.
• The exact URL on afrobeatswire.com where it appears, and which part of the page you mean.
• Who you are, how to reach you, and whether you are the rights holder or acting for them.
• A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised.
• A statement that the information in your notice is accurate.

A notice that identifies the material precisely can be acted on the same day. One that does not usually costs a round of email first.

What happens next

• We review the notice and check it against our own records for that page.
• Where the claim is made out, we remove or replace the material, or add the credit or licence that was missing.
• We tell you what we did.
• Where an article is changed as a result, the change is handled under our Corrections policy.

Removing something is not an admission of liability, and it does not stop us reporting the story.

Repeat notices

Where a source repeatedly supplies us with material it has no right to supply, we stop using that source.
