Next Music was a Paris-based independent record company founded in January 2001 by the Compagnie Financière et Industrielle du Hainault to acquire the assets of Musisoft. Discogs describes it as the fourth-largest independent French label of its period and a leading independent in the world-music segment, organising its catalogue under genre sublabels including Sono (African world music), Al-Sur (Mediterranean) and Jahmin (reggae).
The company is defunct; Discogs dates its activity to roughly 2001-2005, and no later activity or named successor was found by this desk. Its 2003 joint credit with “Sono” on a Koffi Olomidé/Quartier Latin release sits awkwardly alongside Sono’s separate life as a historic Sonodisc sublabel, a relationship this desk could not resolve from sources checked.
