Kennis Music is the Lagos label named as the owner of both the sound recording copyright and the underlying copyright on the physical editions of Face 2 Face, the 2004 debut solo album by Innocent Idibia, who records as 2Baba and formerly as 2Face Idibia.
The credit transcription for the Nigerian CD edition, catalogue number KMVCD 037, names Kennis Music twice: once under Phonographic Copyright (p) and once under Copyright (c). The same transcription names Kenny Ogungbe Music Publishing under Published By, and records the rights society on the product as BMI. That is a label-owned record on both sides, masters and publishing, with the publishing sitting in a separately named company.
Kennis Music is also the named phonogram owner on the 18-track reissue Face 2 Face 10.0, dated 17 December 2014, where the Apple credit reads “℗ 2014 Kennis Music” and the Deezer label field reads Kennis Music against UPC 889176325038. Three editions of the album sit under the label in the Discogs release database: a Nigerian CD at KMCD 080, a South African edition at KMSA 0001, and a worldwide AAC edition. Kennis Music is the named label on Grass 2 Grace, the 2006 follow-up album, at UPC 843041058193, and on the 2006 single “For Instance”, where the Apple credit reads “℗ 2006 Kennis Music”.
MusicBrainz carries both Face 2 Face and Grass 2 Grace under Kennis Music. So the label’s claim over the recordings is consistent across three independent registries and across physical and digital product.
Who owns Kennis Music could not be established. Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission publishes no searchable API, and a search of the UK register for “Kennis” returns no company of this name in any music activity. The only register-level fact available about the publishing side is the name Kenny Ogungbe Music Publishing on the product credit.
