Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC) has engaged Chilanga Town Council to strengthen Non-Revenue Water (NRW) management through improved water accountability, particularly the recording of authorised water used for firefighting.
LWSC Manager for Non-Revenue Water, Engineer Mununga Mungalu, emphasised the importance of maintaining accurate records of firefighting water consumption to support effective NRW monitoring and reporting.
Mr Mungalu explained that the engagement focused on establishing systematic mechanisms for recording water drawn from fire hydrants and other authorised points.
He noted that accurate documentation will strengthen water balance, NRW monitoring and accountability for water supplied through the utility firm’s distribution network.
Chilanga Town Council, Director of Engineering, Chilufya Mukuka reaffirmed the council’s commitment to properly account for water used for firefighting and other authorised purposes.
He said the local authority has pledged to support efforts to reduce local NRW levels through improved water accountability and responsible water management.
Mr Mukuka said LWSC and Chilanga Town Council will strengthen record-keeping and reporting mechanisms for firefighting water consumption.
He added that the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to improve water measurement, reduce water losses and promote efficient management of water resources.
