Born in Soweto CC

South African close corporation named as a phonogram claimant on Prince Kaybee releases of 2015 and 2016, alongside Universal Music (Pty) Ltd (ZA).

Based in
South Africa

Born in Soweto CC is the entity named alongside Universal Music (Pty) Ltd (ZA) in the phonogram credit on a group of Prince Kaybee releases issued between 2015 and 2016, including his debut album Better Days. The credit on that album reads “℗ 2015 Born in Soweto CC / Universal Music (Pty) Ltd (ZA)” and the same joint formula appears on the singles Wajellwa, Dont Give Up and Charlotte.

“CC” denotes a close corporation, a South African company form. The abbreviation is the only indication of the entity type on the public record reviewed here.

Who owns or controls Born in Soweto CC could not be established. South Africa’s Companies and Intellectual Property Commission has no free public search interface available to this desk, no company website was found, and no party has published a statement identifying its shareholders or directors. It is widely assumed to be an entity associated with Prince Kaybee himself, whose legal name is Kabelo Motsamai, but no document reviewed states this and the assumption is not carried into this profile as fact. The entity is documented here solely through the phonogram credit on named releases.

The joint credit matters because it is structurally different from the credit on the artist’s preceding single, which read “℗ 2015 Kabelo Motsamai under exclusive license to Universal Music Pty Ltd (ZA)” and named an individual as owner and the major as licensee. From 2017 onward the credit on his releases named Universal Music (Pty) Ltd South Africa alone, and Born in Soweto CC no longer appears.
