Devo Music Group (Pty) Ltd is the company named as licensor on the Apple phonogram credit line of The Big Hash’s later releases through Sony Music Entertainment Africa (Pty) Ltd. The line on “HEARTBREAK HOTEL: DELUXE EDITION”, on “WHAT!” (26 September 2025) and on “PRESS HASH: VOLUME ONE” (21 November 2025) reads “℗ South Africa - Sony Music Entertainment Africa (Pty) Ltd, under exclusive licence from Devo Music Group (Pty) Ltd”, with the year matching each release.
The name is older than the Sony arrangement. “DEVO MUSIC GROUP”, in that form, carries the phonogram credit directly, with no Sony involvement, on two self-released singles from 2023: “That’s Wassup” (11 April 2023) and “CLOWN” (20 July 2023). Both predate the November 2023 signing. That sequence matters, because it means the name was already in use before Sony appeared on the credits, and it weakens any simple assumption that the company was created or renamed as a result of the deal.
The relationship between this company and Devo Entity Holdings (Pty) Ltd is unresolved. Devo Entity Holdings is the licensor named on the 2023 and early 2024 Sony releases; Devo Music Group is the licensor named from the deluxe edition onward. The two names overlap in time rather than succeeding each other cleanly, since “DEVO MUSIC GROUP” was self-crediting releases in April and July 2023 while “Devo Entity Holdings (Pty) Ltd” was the named licensor that November. This desk does not know whether these are one company renamed, two companies under common control, or two unrelated entities. Neither company nor Sony has explained the change.
No website, social account, filing or public statement issued in this company’s name was located. Directors, shareholders, registration number and incorporation date are unknown. The South African CIPC company register was not checked and is where the question would be settled.
A further, unexplained shift follows. The Big Hash’s 2026 releases do not name either Devo company. “Love Is A Star” (8 May 2026) carries “℗ 2026 South Africa - Sony Music Entertainment Africa (Pty) Ltd / Piano Hub (Pty) Ltd”, and “Upside Down” (10 April 2026) carries “℗ 2026 Jacquel Entertainment Group” with no Sony credit at all. Whether the licence lapsed, was varied, or simply does not cover those products cannot be determined from the credit lines.
