Sugar Mummy Records is the independent Nigerian label founded by singer Teni (Teniola Apata) to release her own music. She established it for her sophomore album TEARS OF THE SUN, put out on 17 November 2023 after her contract with Dr Dolor Entertainment, the label that had released her debut, came to an end.
The label is Teni’s own vehicle rather than a third-party company: catalogue records credit “Sugar Mummy” or “Sugar Mummy Group” as phonogram owner on her releases from mid-2022 onward, and several of those releases have gone out under exclusive licence or distribution arrangements with other companies, including Dvpper Digital, Artist House and gamma. The label’s name plays on her 2019 single of the same title, and on the persona she has used to describe herself in interviews.
