South African producer Champuru Makhenzo, who has international platinum credits, has released an original song created for the Nedbank IMC Conference, turning the event’s discussions and atmosphere into a recorded track.
The song was produced through Music on Media, an initiative that explores how music can work alongside media, culture and brands. Recording, distribution and music infrastructure were powered by SOL Distro, a music distribution platform.
The Nedbank IMC took place on Thursday, 17 September 2026 at Mosaïek Teatro in Johannesburg, South Africa. It brought together marketers, creatives and industry figures for a day focused on the changing marketing landscape under the theme “Shift Happens”. Discussions covered technology, culture, creativity and business.
Conference material as production#
Makhenzo used the event as source material, chopping, looping and rearranging snippets from speakers and delegates. On stage, Bouga Luv asked:
“Are you making the song as I speak now? Are these the lyrics you want for your song?”
Phrases from the conference were reshaped into musical elements. “AI in the context of marketing” becomes rhythmic through repetition, “King Kong” turns into a chant and “I have chandeliers in my ears” becomes a refrain placed over gqom’s signature digital choirs and smoky synths.
Distribution and extended reach#
The release connects to SOL Distro, which handled recording, distribution and music infrastructure for the project. The track is intended to outlast the conference itself, extending the event’s identity into music and allowing the experience to reach audiences outside the physical venue.
Through Music on Media, the project shows how an event can generate original music from its own environment and conversations. With Makhenzo handling production, the conference song links marketing, music and South African culture in a single release. A visualiser captures the energy of the conference and turns its memorable moments into music.
