Airtel Kenya is the Kenyan mobile network operator whose Hello Tune service is the second ring back tune channel for recorded music in Kenya, after Safaricom’s Skiza.
Airtel Kenya was the second defendant in Music Copyright Society of Kenya v Safaricom Limited & 3 others, in which MCSK sought to stop the three operators remitting ring back tune royalties to anyone but itself. That application was dismissed on 8 May 2024. Airtel Kenya was again an interested party in the judicial review brought by the artists Justus Ngemu and Saul Esikuri over section 30C of the Copyright Act, where the High Court on 8 May 2025 granted leave that operated as a stay on Safaricom and Airtel remitting ring back tune net revenue to premium rate service providers, and on 5 March 2026 dismissed a further application to extend the compliance period.
The company is named in Kenyan court records as Airtel Kenya Limited in the 2024 proceedings and simply as Airtel Kenya in the 2025 and 2026 rulings.
