The release is one of several recent music projects built for virtual reality, augmented reality and gaming platforms.
Soapbox holograms and label deals#
Soapbox, a startup that films artist performances and interviews and turns them into life-size holograms for VR headsets and, soon, augmented reality (AR) glasses, has filmed more than 140 artists. Those include T-Pain, Waka Flocka Flame and blues artist Buddy Guy. The company has deals with all the major labels.
Co-founder Kevin Sellors said: “VR headsets are our shellac records, it will go to AR glasses, coming this year, to hologram projection, and beyond. As soon as the devices look cool, they’re outta here. The glasses will change the game.”
Young Roddo’s Roblox video#
Nine-year-old rapper Young Roddo has signed to Empire and released a video billed as “the first official music video filmed entirely inside Roblox.” The song, “Robux,” includes the lyric “Girl, you got me spendin’ Robux on you,” and the video was shot within Brookhaven, one of Roblox’s most popular games.
Young Roddo’s breakout track “No Bad Grades” was released in May and has nearly 7.4 million streams on Spotify. His song “Ms. Jackson,” which is not the Outkast track, has posted similar streaming numbers.
