Tiso Blackstar Group SE was a JSE-listed media, broadcasting and content group (share code TBG), incorporated in England and Wales and registered as an external company in South Africa. It owned the Gallo music business, South Africa’s oldest record label, until March 2020.
In June 2019 the company sold its media, broadcasting and content businesses to Lebashe Investment Group for ZAR 1.05 billion, stating at the time that it would “retain the Gallo Music Group business and develop it further.” Nine months later, on 6 March 2020, it sold Gallo anyway, via subsidiary Blackstar Holdings Group, to Arena Holdings. The company itself delisted from the JSE in 2020 following a scheme and standby offer, citing a considerable reduction in its South African investments.
It is included here as the former parent of Gallo, not as an African-owned company: it was UK-incorporated and London-headquartered throughout its ownership of the Gallo business.
