A documentary on Thai K-pop star and Blackpink member Lisa will open in Imax and cinemas worldwide for a limited engagement beginning Oct. 12, Sony Music Vision said.
Directed by Sue Kim, “Always Lalisa” follows a pivotal year in which Lisa steps away from Blackpink for the first time since childhood, pursues a solo career, acting and brand work, and tries to maintain a private life. Trafalgar Releasing is handling theatrical distribution, and the documentary will move to YouTube Premium for an exclusive streaming release later in 2026.
“Lisa’s music resonates with fans across the globe and we hope this film creates that same powerful connection,” said Tom Mackay, president of Sony Music Vision. Mackay added that Sony Music Vision was thrilled to partner with YouTube Premium to bring the film to audiences worldwide.
Marc Allenby, chief executive of Trafalgar Releasing, called the documentary an unguarded look at Lisa’s path from Blackpink stardom to global recognition. “Blinks have been waiting for this story and we are proud to give them the opportunity to celebrate her incredible journey together in cinemas worldwide,” Allenby said.
Lyor Cohen, global head of music at YouTube, described Lisa as a performer who has built a close bond with fans through the platform. “There’s no better place to share her story than on YouTube, giving her millions of fans a front-row seat to her evolution as an artist,” Cohen said.
“Always Lalisa” is set to premiere at the 2026 Toronto Film Festival ahead of its theatrical run.
Recent career milestones#
- Performed “Goals” alongside Anitta and Rema at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the first female K-pop and Thai artist to take that stage.
- Played Coachella 2025 as a solo act, sat on the 2026 Met Gala host committee as the first K-pop artist in that role, and presented at the 2026 Golden Globes.
- Made her acting debut as Mook in HBO’s “The White Lotus” and has two Netflix projects in the works: starring in and executive producing the action film “Tygo,” and an untitled romantic comedy in development.
- Her upcoming extended play (EP) “Press Play” arrives Oct. 23, led by first single “SaWaDika,” out Sept. 3.
- Became the first K-pop artist to hold a Las Vegas residency, with the four-show “Viva La Lisa” run at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace set for Nov. 13-14 and Nov. 27-28, selling out in under 10 minutes.
