India’s GiMA Awards to Return in 2027 as Digital-First Platform

Wizcraft Entertainment Agency will revive the Global Indian Music Academy Awards in 2027 as a digital-first music culture platform.

Global Indian Music Academy Awards

The Global Indian Music Academy Awards (GiMA), an Indian music awards show, will return in 2027 under a new format led by Wizcraft Entertainment Agency.

Launched in 2010, GiMA held six editions before going on hiatus in 2016. The event was created to recognise and celebrate excellence across India’s diverse music landscape.

Its next version will operate as a “digital-first music culture platform”, built for how music is discovered, experienced and celebrated today. The programme will bring together film, “non-film”, traditional, regional, independent and emerging Indian music through original songs, podcasts, concerts and creator workshops, with the awards serving as the grand finale.

“GiMA aims to bring about greater integration across genres and open up the Indian music landscape by promoting Indian talent on a global platform, providing artists and creators with opportunities to showcase their voices, realise their ambitions and reach new audiences,” the announcement said.

Wizcraft co-founder Sabbas Joseph presented the return at the All About Music conference. He said that just as the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards transformed into a global celebration of Indian cinema, GiMA aims to become the definitive platform championing Indian music across the world.

Whether the ceremony and ancillary events will be held in different countries with large diaspora audiences, as with the IIFA Awards, is expected to be confirmed closer to the announcement of dates next year.
