Nigerian DJ and entrepreneur Tolanibaj has publicly alleged that a former employee stole DJ equipment worth millions of naira from her academy and is now on the run.
In a tearful account, the former Big Brother Naija housemate said she hired Precious Akiyemi Deborah as an executive assistant in April and later gave her more than ₦6 million in Nigerian naira to buy four DJ controllers for the academy.
Weeks later, Tolanibaj said, she found that three of the controllers were missing. When questioned, Deborah claimed she had taken them home because they were faulty, according to Tolanibaj.
Tolanibaj said she dismissed Deborah and sent staff to recover the equipment from her residence, but no one was there. She added that she later learned Deborah had attempted to sell the controllers and had contacted another DJ about renting similar equipment.
The case was reported to Nigeria’s police, Tolanibaj said. Two people who allegedly bought the controllers were arrested, and one stolen controller has been recovered.
Tolanibaj said Deborah is wanted by the police and appealed for information about her whereabouts. She also advised business owners to put stronger accountability structures in place to protect their assets.
