- Rights covered
- Announced as a '360 partnership' covering, per the press release republished across trade outlets, 'new releases, catalogue, brand partnerships, live and sync deals.' Contemporaneous trade reporting on the announcement describes the substance as 'an exclusive distribution agreement, with an option for Warner to upstream WCB-Wasafi artists to its labels.' No source states that copyright in WCB-Wasafi's masters or publishing transferred to Warner Music Group or to Ziiki Media. WCB-Wasafi is described in its own company profile, both before and after the announcement, as independent and founder-owned. Current DSP release credits checked directly in page markup (see caveat) name Ziiki Media alone as phonographic rightsholder on every 2025 and 2026 release checked; none names Warner in that credit line.
- Territory
- Stated ambition was global reach, with the announcement naming East and Central Africa as the immediate focus. WCB-Wasafi is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Ziiki Media is based in Sandton, South Africa, with additional operations in India. The Warner affiliate named in the 2021 announcement is Warner Music South Africa; the ultimate parent that files with the SEC is Warner Music Group Corp., incorporated in Delaware, United States. DSP release metadata checked for this record contains no mention of any Warner entity or brand name; it credits Ziiki Media alone.

- Warner Music Group Corp. Exhibit 21.1 to the Form 10-K for fiscal year ended 30 September 2025, filed with the SEC on 20 November 2025: subsidiary list naming Warner Music South Africa (pty) Ltd., Africori Limited, Africori SA PTY LTD. and Warner Music West Africa Limited among African entities. No entity naming Wasafi, Ziiki or any Tanzanian jurisdiction appears. · Warner Music Group Corp. Exhibit 21.1 to the fiscal 2022 Form 10-K, filed 22 November 2022: first global subsidiary list checked, no Wasafi or Ziiki entity, no Tanzanian entity of any kind
Read this before citing: No price, revenue share, advance or equity stake has been disclosed by any party in any document checked. The 2021 press release says WCB-Wasafi becomes 'part of' Warner Music South Africa and Ziiki Media, language that reads as incorporation; Warner's own SEC Exhibit 21.1, filed annually from fiscal 2022 through fiscal 2025, contradicts a literal reading of that: no Wasafi or Ziiki entity, and no Tanzanian entity of any kind, appears in four consecutive years of Warner's mandatory subsidiary disclosure, a filing that did name three new South African entities the year Warner separately acquired the label Coleske. That absence is affirmative evidence against a subsidiary relationship, not merely a gap; Warner has shown, with Coleske and with Africori, that it lists African acquisitions when they occur. Some later, secondary trade coverage refers loosely to Warner 'acquiring' Ziiki Media in East Africa; no primary document found supports that word, and it is not used here. DSP release metadata was checked directly in page markup, not summarised: Diamond Platnumz's 2025 and 2026 solo singles on Apple Music and a September 2025 single by labelmate Zuchu featuring Diamond Platnumz all carry the identical phonographic credit '(P) 2025 Ziiki Media'. No release checked names Warner or WCB-Wasafi as a company in that credit line, and 'Warner Music Africa' does not appear in the markup of any of the four release pages checked. This record does not check whether Warner holds any interest in Ziiki Media itself; that question is open. Tanzania's company registry is not checked in this record; no equivalent to the UK's or the US's public company-search tooling was available for this run.
Warner Music and Ziiki Media announced a “360 partnership” with Tanzanian artist Diamond Platnumz and his label WCB-Wasafi on 18 May 2021. No price, equity stake or ownership transfer has been disclosed in any document checked for this record. Four consecutive Warner Music Group Corp. annual reports filed with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, covering fiscal years 2022 through 2025, list dozens of foreign subsidiaries by name, including three other African entities. WCB-Wasafi and Ziiki Media are not among them.
What was announced
The announcement, reproduced across multiple trade outlets between 18 and 19 May 2021, describes a “360 partnership” under which WCB-Wasafi becomes “part of Warner Music South Africa and Ziiki Media”, with the parties working together on “new releases, catalogue, brand partnerships, live and sync deals”. One contemporaneous trade report goes further on mechanics, stating that “the agreement includes an exclusive distribution agreement, with an option for Warner to upstream WCB-Wasafi artists to its labels.”
Alfonso Perez-Soto, then President of Emerging Markets at Warner Music, called it “a new way to engage with artists in Africa”. Temi Adeniji, Managing Director of Warner Music South Africa, said the deal “firmly underpins our entrance into East Africa”. Arun Nagar, CEO and Managing Director of Ziiki Media, said it would “boost our presence in Tanzania and Africa as a whole”. Diamond Platnumz said he had “built WCB-Wasafi from the ground up” and viewed Warner and Ziiki as partners to “help further grow our reach”, language consistent with an artist retaining ownership rather than selling it.
What Warner’s own filings do not say
Warner Music Group Corp.’s Exhibit 21.1, the subsidiary list attached to its Form 10-K, named three new South African entities the year it acquired the label Coleske: none of that applies here. Checked directly against the fiscal 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 filings, Warner’s Exhibit 21.1 lists Warner Music South Africa (pty) Ltd., Africori Limited, Africori SA PTY LTD. and Warner Music West Africa Limited of Nigeria among its African entities in every one of those years. No entity with “Wasafi” or “Ziiki” in its name, and no Tanzanian entity of any kind, appears on any of the four lists. Warner’s fiscal 2025 Form 10-K narrative, which does name the 2021 Coleske acquisition by year, contains no mention of Diamond Platnumz, WCB-Wasafi, Ziiki Media or Tanzania anywhere in its text.
MusicBrainz’s label record for WCB Wasafi, queried 24 August 2026, records no parent, imprint or distribution relationship to Warner or Ziiki at all.
What current release credits show
Diamond Platnumz’s 2025 and 2026 solo singles, checked directly in the underlying markup of their Apple Music release pages rather than in a summary of that page, carry the identical phonographic credit “℗ 2025 Ziiki Media” on every title checked: “Nitafanyaje” (January 2025), “Kuna” (April 2025) and “Natulizana” (February 2026, a release that nonetheless carries a 2025 copyright year). A September 2025 single by labelmate Zuchu featuring Diamond Platnumz, “Inama”, was checked on the same basis and carries the same credit, “℗ 2025 Ziiki Media”. None of the four pages checked contains the string “Warner Music Africa” or any other Warner brand name anywhere in their markup, and none credits WCB-Wasafi as a company. The credit is Ziiki Media, consistently, across both a solo catalogue and a featured track, and the word used is a copyright symbol, not “owned” or “distributed”.
What this record establishes and what it does not
Established: a distribution-and-services partnership was announced on 18 May 2021; the partnership has not converted into a Warner subsidiary relationship in any of the four annual disclosure cycles since; current phonographic copyright metadata across four checked 2025 and 2026 releases, spanning a solo artist and a featured labelmate, consistently credits Ziiki Media alone, not Warner and not WCB-Wasafi as a named company. Not established: any financial terms; why DSP metadata credits Ziiki Media alone when the 2021 announcement described WCB-Wasafi becoming part of both Warner Music South Africa and Ziiki Media; whether Warner holds any interest in Ziiki Media itself, a question this record has not checked; and why a release dated February 2026 carries a 2025 copyright year.
