Gallo Music Publishers is the publishing arm of Gallo Music Group, South Africa’s oldest independent record label. It manages the copyrights of songwriters and composers behind the great majority of Gallo Record Company’s recordings, sub-publishes and administers other local and international catalogues, and represents production (“library”) music.
The company sits inside Gallo Music Investments, the entity formed when Arena Holdings, the South African media group, took over Gallo. DJ Black Coffee holds a minority stake in Gallo Music Investments alongside Arena Holdings. Gallo Music Publishers also has a global sub-publishing partnership with Sony Music Publishing.
Its catalogue is built on decades of South African songwriting, including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the Soul Brothers, Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens, and Mango Groove, alongside more recent artists such as Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse.
