A former Odeon cinema on Union Street in Bristol, England, will be converted into a nightclub and arts venue after Bristol City Council’s licensing sub-committee voted unanimously to approve a premises licence on August 20.
The project is led by UG Arts, the group behind the SAWMILLS club in St Jude’s and the Bristol-based party Alfresco Disco. The site sits in Broadmead, a shopping district in Bristol’s city centre.
The former cinema will house a club and live music space with a focus on electronic music, alongside film screenings and theatre shows. Licence terms include:
- A 5:AM licence for Friday and Saturday nights
- Closing at 4:AM from Sunday through Thursday
- Alcohol and hot food sales
- Live music events
The only objection to the application came from nearby venue Electric Bristol, which is now being consulted.
Project head Luke Turner said:
“We want to connect with different establishments in Bristol and beyond, and work with universities and different agencies to create a kind of broad celebration of music and the arts in Bristol.”
A name and opening date have not been confirmed. Turner and partner Jack Scales have committed to investing £500,000 in the venue before launch.
