It is owned and operated by the Standard Group, the Kenyan multimedia company that also publishes The Standard newspaper and runs KTN television.

It matters as one of the larger Kiswahili-language commercial stations in Kenya and an airplay outlet for Kenyan and Tanzanian popular music.
