Zlatan, the Nigerian artist who leads Zanku Records, has released a new solo single titled “ITALAWA”, a high-energy street-pop record built around movement, confidence and street culture.
The release follows his recent collaboration with ODUMODUBLVCK on “MOTION SICKNESS” and marks a return to his own lane as a solo act.
Production and sound#
Produced by PuffyBeatz and Chech, “ITALAWA” pairs heavy amapiano log drums with traditional Yoruba street percussion over a frantic, high-tempo instrumental.
The production gives Zlatan room to deploy his signature ad-libs, rapid-fire chants and energetic delivery throughout the track.
Meaning and lyrics#
The title draws from a Yoruba street expression tied to being outside, showing up and making one’s presence felt. Zlatan turns that idea into a celebration of survival, financial progress and street confidence.
Lyrically, he maintains the playful confidence central to his sound, taking aim at doubters, celebrating personal wins and embracing the freedom that comes with overcoming challenges.
Context#
The single sees the Zanku Records boss returning to the style and attitude that have helped establish him as one of Nigeria’s most influential street-pop artists.
It also demonstrates his ability to turn everyday experiences and street language into records that connect beyond their original setting.
