The Bureau Tchadien du Droit d’Auteur (BUTDRA) is Chad’s national copyright office, created by Law 05/PR/2003 and organised by a 2005 decree as a public administrative establishment under the ministry in charge of culture. It is based in N’Djamena and is the sole body authorised to manage the exploitation of literary, artistic and scientific works and to protect the rights of their authors and rights-holders in Chad.
BUTDRA collects and redistributes royalties on behalf of members and, under reciprocal agreements, foreign authors’ societies. It has faced recurring criticism from Chadian artists over royalty management and payment levels, and reporting has noted continued disputes with national broadcasters over dues owed to the office.
BUTDRA has no standalone website and should not be confused with the similarly named Bureau Togolais du Droit d’Auteur (BUTODRA) in Togo. Coverage of its activities comes from WIPO Lex and Chadian outlets such as Tchadinfos.
