Universal Music South Africa is the South African division of Universal Music Group, based in Rosebank, Johannesburg, and established in 1997. It handles recording, artist development, marketing and distribution for Universal’s artists in South Africa and the wider region.
It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Universal Music Group and forms the core of Universal’s Sub-Saharan Africa operation, which also spans offices in Nigeria and Kenya. Its work covers both international repertoire and local South African signings.
It matters as one of the three major-label operations that anchor the formal South African recorded-music market.
