Kalawa Jazmee Records is an independent South African record label based in Johannesburg, formed in 1994 from the merger of the Kalawa and Jazmee labels. Its founders include Oskido (Oscar Mdlongwa), Don Laka and Christos Katsaitis, together with members of the group Trompies.
The label is independent and remains one of the defining institutions of kwaito and, later, Afro-house. Its roster over the years has included Mafikizolo, Trompies, Bongo Maffin, Busiswa, Professor, Black Motion and many others.
It matters as a founder-owned label that both helped invent a South African genre and has kept adapting through successive waves of dance music.
