Selena Gomez and Mother Sued in U.S. Over Alleged Wondermind Investor Fraud

A lawsuit filed in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware accuses singer and actress Selena Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey, and co-founder Daniella Pierson of defrauding investors in the mental health startup Wondermind. The complaint, brought by limited liability companies Wondermind SRS 44 and Bespoke Wondermind SPV, alleges that nearly $1.2 million was invested based on false representations.

Allegations of Misrepresentation

The investors claim that Gomez, 34, was presented as being “intimately involved” in the project but failed to honor a signed contract. The filing states: “Gomez purported to sign a contract obligating her to perform and then ignored it. The partnerships did not exist. The initiatives never materialized. The app was never built. And for three years, while the company quietly collapsed around them, not one of its founders, officers, or directors said a word to the investors whose money was funding the collapse.”

The complaint also references an August 2025 Forbes article that detailed internal tensions at the company, which allegedly led Teefey to push Pierson out of the business less than two years after its launch. A spokesperson for Pierson said they “would not characterize it as ‘pushed out.'”

Wondermind’s Launch and Mission

Gomez, Teefey, and Pierson founded Wondermind in 2021, describing it as a space “to work it all out every day with candid conversations, physical tools, daily content, and a supportive community.” The company’s mission statement explained: “One day, we were all talking about it and realized there was no easy, inclusive space where people could come together to explore, discuss, and navigate their feelings. So we thought, why not make it happen? And Wondermind was born.”

Gomez has spoken publicly about her own mental health challenges and the importance of using her platform to raise awareness. In an interview with Entrepreneur, she said, “Something I’ve always tried to do in my career is make sure I lend my voice to places where it matters.”
