Each row's credited artist string was reduced to its lead artist by cutting at the first of a comma, an ampersand, a feature credit, a collaboration marker or a slash, then lowercased. A lead artist counts as African-origin only where that normalised string exactly matches a name this desk's own origin registry has already resolved to an African country with an african flag of 1. The registry holds 174 such names and was built from Spotify's four African daily charts, so its origins are Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Angola, Ghana, Tunisia and Cameroon only: this is a floor on African content, not a measurement of it, and it is biased toward artists large enough to have charted on Spotify. A recording enters this table only if it charted both in its lead artist's registered origin market and in at least one other African market on the panel, which is 384 recordings. home_tenure_pct is the share of that market's collected days the recording held a chart position at home; away_tenure_pct is the same share averaged across every foreign African market it reached. raw_ratio is home over away. home_rel and away_rel divide each of those shares by the mean tenure share of all recordings in the market concerned, taken from the companion turnover table, so a value of 1 means the recording held its position exactly as long as the average recording on that chart: this removes the fact that some African charts replace themselves far faster than others for every recording on them. rel_ratio is home_rel over away_rel. longer_at_home_raw and longer_at_home_adjusted count recordings whose home figure exceeds its foreign figure on each measure.
