Both are computed here rather than in prose, and both are given because the first measures the service against what was asked of it and the second against the continent. daily_min and daily_max are the fewest and most African markets that service returned on any single one of the 14 dates. depth_min and depth_max are the fewest and most ranks it published for any single African market on any of the 14 dates. markets_with_volume is the number of its covered markets for which it also published a stream or view count against each rank. sole_source_markets is the number of markets for which this service is the only one of the six publishing anything. Population, stated plainly because it is the binding limit on this piece: this desk's collector requests a daily chart for 46 African storefronts, not all 54 African member states of the United Nations. The 46 are read directly out of afw_charts_countries() in wp-content\/mu-plugins\/afw-charts.php as it stood on 3 November 2026. Eight African states are therefore not requested at all and are recorded here as a gap in this desk's own instrument, not as a finding about any service. Window: the 14 consecutive collection dates from 2026-10-21 to 2026-11-03 inclusive. All six services returned a chart on all 14 of those dates, so no service is advantaged or penalised by a missed collection day. A market counts as covered by a service if that service published a daily song chart for it, and the collector persisted it, on at least one of the 14 dates. A 14-day union is used rather than a single day because one service, Apple Music, returned between 26 and 36 African markets on individual days inside the window while the other five were constant; a single-day reading would move the headline for a collection reason rather than a publishing one. The 42-market result is identical when computed over all 79 collection dates this desk holds, which is the strongest available check that the window is not doing the work. Only song charts are counted. Apple's separate daily album and music-video charts are excluded, which is why three markets Apple charts for albums only are not counted as covered. Published volume means the service publishes a stream or view count against each rank, as persisted into this desk's chart_entry store; rank-only charts are recorded as publishing no volume. Provenance of each feed, as configured in the collector: Apple Music Most Played and iTunes Top Songs are read from Apple's own public endpoints, rss.marketingtools.apple.com\/api\/v2\/{market}\/music\/most-played and itunes.apple.com\/{market}\/rss\/topsongs; Spotify, Shazam, Deezer and YouTube are read from kworb.net's public mirrors of each service's published chart. This desk's own composite chart is excluded throughout: the question is what the services publish, not what this desk derives from them. markets_requested is 46 on every row, the size of the storefront list the collector asks each service for, carried in the table so the denominator is verifiable rather than asserted. Depth caveat, stated because it is a real limit on two of the six rows: depth_min and depth_max record what this desk's collector persisted, which is not in every case what the service publishes. Apple Music Most Played is requested at limit=100, so 100 is the request and Apple may publish more; the kworb parser the Spotify, Shazam, Deezer and YouTube rows pass through discards any row with a position above 200, so the 200 recorded against Spotify and Shazam sits exactly on that cap and cannot be distinguished from it. The depth figures that are unambiguously the services' own are the ones that returned below the request or the cap: iTunes at 55 to 98 against a request for 100, Deezer at 100 and YouTube at 20. markets_covered, markets_with_volume and sole_source_markets are unaffected by this: they are counts of markets and of whether a volume field exists, not of depth. On the volume field, checked directly on 3 November 2026: the Apple Music and iTunes feeds carry no count field, and the Shazam and Deezer pages carry three columns, position, movement, and artist with title, with no volume column present to read.","unit":"count","license":"Afrobeats Wire's compilation and analysis are licensed CC BY 4.0.
