For each date every chart row was summed. lead_streams is the portion whose credited lead artist this desk's roster places in an African country, which is the measure every previous piece from this desk has published. feature_streams is the portion of the remainder, meaning rows whose lead artist is not classified African, that credits at least one featured artist the roster does place in an African country. The two are disjoint by construction. export_ columns restrict to the 71 charts outside the four African countries Spotify publishes a daily chart for. export_multiple is credited export streams divided by lead-only export streams. markets_lead counts charts carrying an African lead artist, markets_any_credit counts charts carrying an African lead or an African credited feature. Credited featured artists in the collected chart rows carry no Spotify artist id, so each feature name is normalised (accents and punctuation stripped, lower-cased) and matched against the names in this desk's roster of 5,847 charting artists. Only names that resolve to exactly one African country across every roster entry bearing that name are counted, which is 149 names. Normalisation strips every character that is not a Latin letter or digit, so the 165 roster names written wholly in Arabic, Cyrillic, Hebrew or CJK script all reduce to one empty key, which resolves to more than one country and is therefore excluded from matching; exactly one of those 165 names is African. Matching raw unnormalised names instead returns 150 matchable African names and a panel-wide feature total of 5,740,639 rather than 5,539,682, and leaves the export total (3,270,011) and the count of charts carrying an African credit (45) unchanged, so no figure reported from this data depends on the normalisation rule. The measure is nonetheless weakest on North African guest credits. A featured artist who has never charted as a lead is absent from the roster and is therefore not counted at all, so every feature figure here is a floor, not an estimate. Where a track credits more than one African feature, the whole track's streams are attributed once, to the first credited African feature, so no stream is counted twice; that applied to 4 of 151 chart-row observations on 28 September 2026. Chart streams are not total streams: this measures presence inside a market's published daily Top 200, not catalogue consumption.
