{"id":8154,"slug":"african-chart-coverage-connected-2026","title":"Spotify daily chart coverage of 25 African markets, by population, internet users and GNI, 2025\/2026","source":"Computed from this desk africa-population, africa-internet-penetration, africa-gni-per-capita and no-chart-wealth-connectivity datasets, all sourced from World Bank open data","source_url":"https:\/\/api.worldbank.org\/v2\/country\/all\/indicator\/IT.NET.USER.ZS?format=json","source_type":"computed","method":"Built by extending this desk two registered World Bank collections, africa-population (indicator SP.POP.TOTL, 2025 reference year) and africa-internet-penetration (indicator IT.NET.USER.ZS, 2024 reference year), together with africa-gni-per-capita (indicator NY.GNP.PCAP.CD, 2025 reference year), merged on ISO2 country code across the 25 African markets this desk maintains context data for. The merged base is this desk no-chart-wealth-connectivity dataset, used unedited, including its documented backfills: Nigeria GNI per capita and the internet-penetration values for South Africa, Tunisia, Botswana, Cameroon and Mali, which were absent from the original collections and were queried directly from the World Bank API on 21 August 2026. connected_population is population multiplied by internet_pct and divided by 100, rounded to the nearest person. total_gni_usd is population multiplied by gni_per_capita_usd. share_of_connected_pct is each market connected_population as a percentage of the 25-market total of 522,822,710. chart_status is charted for the four countries Spotify publishes a daily Top 200 for (Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa, Morocco) and no_chart for the other 21. Excluded: the 29 African countries this desk does not maintain context data for, so the uncharted side of this table is a floor and not a total. Internet penetration is a count of individuals who used the internet in the reference period, which is not a count of music streaming subscribers; no row here claims otherwise.","unit":"","license":"Afrobeats Wire's compilation and analysis are licensed CC BY 4.0.
