Spotify's aggregate global chart is excluded, because it is not a market. Each entry was credited to its lead artist only; featured credits are not counted toward the featured artist. Artist origin was resolved against MusicBrainz, preferring the artist MusicBrainz links to that exact Spotify profile and falling back to a documented manual override with published evidence where no link exists. Artists MusicBrainz cannot place are excluded rather than assumed African. For each African-origin artist the number of distinct country charts carrying at least one of their tracks that day was counted, and their chart streams summed across those charts. Chart streams are a sample of consumption, not a full accounting: they cover only tracks inside a market's top 200 on a single day, so an artist with real demand spread below position 200 in many markets registers here as absent. The single-chart share was then recomputed on seven different populations drawn from the same day: all African-origin artists charting anywhere on the 75-chart panel; only the 50 largest by daily chart streams, which is the panel this desk normally publishes; only artists whose home country is one of the four African countries Spotify publishes a daily chart for; and only artists whose home country has no published Spotify chart at all. Two further rows drop one artist each: the largest African artist by chart streams that day, and the only artist appearing on four charts. A final worst-case row adds every artist charting that day whose origin MusicBrainz could not resolve, 695 of them, and treats all of them as African. This is deliberately implausible: it is an upper bound used to show which way the origin exclusion pushes the finding.
